Family members of some temporary foreign workers (TFWs) will be qualified for work permits as of today, January 30.
Sean Fraser, minister of immigration, stated that the temporary foreign worker programme (TFWP) and International Mobility Program will temporarily extend work permits to family members of primary applicants (IMP). This action will aid Canada in addressing its ongoing labour shortfall.
According to the revised policy, everyone who satisfies the following requirements is now eligible for a work permit:
They are the primary applicant and have an open work permit, or they are the spouse, common-law partner, or dependent child of a work permit holder who:
works in a position of any Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) category (0 to 5);
holds an open work permit (example: post-graduation work permit holders at all skill levels);
They are an economic class permanent resident applicant’s spouse, common-law partner, or dependant child who also has a work visa.
